Spitzer - no puns

Wow. Now that is what I call a scandal! Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York has been caught in involvement with a high-end prostitution ring. He hasn’t outright said he was directly involved but Monday he did hold a press conference saying the following:

“I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my, or any, sense of right and wrong,” the governor said. “I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public to whom I promised better. I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family.”

Uh, that sure sounds like a guilty person talking. The New York Times is running an article right now “Spitzer Said to Be Weighing Resignation”. If that happens, David Patterson would become the first black governor of New York. He’s also legally blind.

So do you think he’ll resign today? I sure do. This would be a really big political downfall to overcome in office. It is just amazing, and it sounds like I’m passing judgement but the guy is already apologizing so I doubt he’s innocent here, but it is amazing how these people in power somehow lose sight of reality, what is right and wrong and think that they can do these illicit, illegal, and insane things and not get caught.

At least it got us off the Clinton/Obama clusterfuck for a day or two. My two favorite puns to come out of this so far come from last night’s Daily Show: “Spitzer Swallows” and “Fuckgate” Priceless.
