For having so much to watch last night, I barely enjoyed watching any of it. First up was Biggest Loser which I completely ignored for the first hour and have no idea what happened between 8 and 9. This was partly because I was watching ADS/TCR on Comedy Central and partly because I was trying to work on something else. My own fault. I come to the show at 9 (to my delight, Jericho premiered at 10pm) for the weigh-in. I love the weigh-in, best part of the show. Except last night, it was horribly boring. Perhaps you do have to watch the first hour to be invested in the weigh-in? I don’t know but it was so obvious that the blue team was going to lose by the way it was all filmed and all the commentaries from the black team about how there was no way they would win the week. Even the vote-off was boring as Trent took one for the team. Anyone else think Mark becomes more human each week? Anyone else think it was incredibly pitiful watching all these big macho men cry?
Jericho, unfortunately, did not thrill in the way I had anticipated. It ended on such a high note last season. There was a war going on between the towns of Jericho and New Bern and all social order had been abandoned. This caused for some great drama and great social commentary. Well, we picked up not where we had left off but about 4 weeks after the war. Tons of people from both towns have been killed but none of the main characters (puhleaze!). Everyone is angry but we’re not really sure why. Social order has come back with the military setting up residence in Jericho. And then a whole bunch of nothing. What made the show interesting – how a town survives after the complete demise of the American Goverment and law and order – was not present in last night’s episode. It was basically getting things back to normal. Trouble is that, for how much I like this show, it isn’t very good if there’s no major conflict going on. Sure, Jake (Skeet Ulrich) wants the New Bern guy dead for killing his father, but the revenge thing is kinda boring. Previews for next week look more promising with the new president coming to town (same guy that married Steve Martin’s daughter in Father of the Bride) so hopefully that holds true.
And then I go to watch what looks to have been the last A Daily Show as tonight should be the return of The Daily Show since the writers strike is over. Who’s the last guest to be on? Bill Kristol. Effing a-hole Bill Kristol. And he did not disappoint. The line of bullshit this guy tried to pass to Jon Stewart left the entire studio in stunned silence. Even Stewart couldn’t believe the crap Kristol was saying, stuff about Iraq going well, the economy going strong, and Bush being a celebrated leader after he leaves office. Eek. It was nice though to hear Stewart talk about hosting the Oscars, saying that he had about a week and a half to prepare and that he wasn’t worried at all. Suddenly I’m excited about the Oscars again. Too bad I won’t be home for most of the ceremony.
Anyhoo, yucky night of TV. Tonight does not look any better but at least Lost is back tomorrow. For anyone who has listened to the LostCasts podcast for last week’s episode, I love how they talked about everything in the episode except all the major points about Ben. There was a good theory about who the “man on their boat” guy is though.
I’m outtie with a pic. YAY, you’re coming back!
