There’s an article over at HuffPo about this one person’s love for Family Guy. Here is the link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/01/family-guy-so-wrong-but-s_n_110141.html
Reading this and then the comments posted below it made me stop for a moment and think about this.
I’m not as hardcore a fan as some people. Despite the fact that there are at least 5 episodes of Family Guy on on any given night, I can still tune in and see ones I haven’t seen before. But I do admit to loving this show. I’ve been watching it a lot this summer since there really isn’t anything else on. I love the weird “like the time…” device of the show and it never fails to make me laugh.
What I find fascinating about this show is that people seem to have such strong opinions about it. You either enjoy Family Guy or you hate it, and when you hate it that means that everyone else in the world should hate it also.
Do we have to pit Family Guy up against South Park or Futurama, all good shows with their own set of merits? I can enjoy South Park and Family Guy at the same time, can’t I? I even love the South Park episode in which they rip Family Guy to shreds – a two-parter.
All I’m saying is that there is so much hate in the world, can’t we all just agree to disagree when it comes to silly, grown-up cartoon shows?
