The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I’ll leave it at that until you all get a chance to see it.

Ok, so my last post was a bit angry, a bit hateful, but I was upset. Not at the New England Patriots but at circumstances that prevented them competing in the playoffs.

Because the truth is that the Patriots rocked this year. Do you think the Colts could have survived if Peyton Manning had gone down? Do you think the Giants would still be the #1 seed in the NFC if they had lost some of their big guys earlier on in the season? I have to say the answer is no. The Patriots this year showed that injuries are never an excuse to lose or not play great football. They also showed that you don’t have to be a superstar to throw long, a multi-millionaire to stop the run. 11-5 is a record all of us can be happy about, even if the players aren’t – which they shouldn’t be because that is how they are coached.

And everyone associated with the Patriots, on down to us fans, got a late Christmas present this morning. Eric Mangini was fired as head coach of the New York Jets this morning. His team lost 4 of the last 5 games when they had a lead in the AFC East and a superstar quarterback in Brett Favre. I don’t like the Dolphins but I’m pretty damn happy that they are representing this division and not the Jets, if it couldn’t be the Pats.

2009 will come soon enough and another season will start. We’ll see Coach Belichik in his latest cutoff wardrobe. We’ll all hope and pray that Tom Brady and all the other injured players come back good and healthy. There’s always next season.

For right now we all pick a team to follow through the playoffs. There’s no reason why we can’t still enjoy the game even if our team isn’t playing it. I think I’m going to go with the Colts. I want to stick with the AFC and it is truly amazing how Manning has played this season. And with Big Ben concussed yet again, I think we’re headed for a Manning on Manning Super Bowl. Should be fun.

Well Poop

I hate the Jets.

I hate the Ravens.

I hate Brett Favre and his twenty thousand interceptions.

I hate Eric Mangini.

I hate that the Jets released Chad Pennigton to the Dolphins in favor of Brett Favre and that what actually ended up hurting the Pats was Chad Pennigton’s desire for revenge.

I hate the Dolphins and their stupid wildcat formation.

I hate the Kansas City Chiefs player that hurt Tom Brady.

I hate that Matt Cassel stepped up and played his heart out and doesn’t have a playoff game to show for it.

I hate that the Jets beat the Patriots in OT back in November.

And I hate that the Pats didn’t make the playoffs today.

The only bright side I see to any of this, besides that the Pats did finish with a remarkable 11-5 record, is that Mangini will probably be gone from the Jets and Favre I think played his last game this afternoon. The old fart should have stayed home.

This just sucks.

Jet Fan For A Day

Well, the New England Patriots got the job done in windy Buffalo. They finish the regular season 11-5 and I think we can all agree that their record is better than anyone could have predicted once Brady and all the others got injured. Matt Cassel, we owe you big time.

But as we all know, the Pats winning today will not be enough to get to the playoffs. No, to do that, we all have to hold our noses and root for…the NY Jets, the evil snake Eric Mangini and the old fart Brett Favre. If the Jets win, NE is the third seed in the playoffs. If Baltimore loses, the Pats can go in as a wild card.

Needless to say, the next three hours will be the most tense of the season since we watched Brady on the ground in agony back in wk 1. I unfortunately have to go to dinner with my family – I shouldn’t say it that way, I want to go. But I’ll be preoccupied the whole time. Come 7pm tonight, we should know.

You gotta love football. The Oakland Raiders, who went into Tampa today at 4-11, just beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and consequently knocked the Bucs out of the playoffs. Unbelievable.

Whatever happens with the Patriots, Jets and Ravens this afternoon, you can’t deny that football is a great game.

So how did y’all do? Get some good stuff? I hope so. I hope you all ate tons of food. I know I did.

I guess the elephant in the room or should I say the big-ass TV in the room is my big Christmas present this year. Mom and Ruth, the two most wonderful people in the world, got me a 47-inch LCD/HD flat screen television. This is something that I had thought about having but not until way into the future and would never have dreamed of asking for. I’m still a bit shocked about it all. Ecstatic and shocked.

We had a rule this year that we would only by books for each other (with a slight exception of a DVD or two). So they wrapped the manual for the TV cause obviously the box would have been an immediate give away (the thing is freakin’ huge). I unwrapped the manual and was speechless, caught completely by surprise. They were both laughing at my dumbfounded expression and said “It’s upstairs in one of the guestrooms” and I ran up the stairs. I will admit I jumped up and down a bit when I saw it. And I will also admit I’ve talking and thinking about it a bit too much since. πŸ™‚

The other things I got were cool too. I got three books which I’m very excited to read, including Tale of Two Cities which I’ve never read but have been wanting to. I also got the DVD of The Thornbirds miniseries. I’m told that I will really like it, again I’ve never seen it.Β In my stocking I found brand new (nice) headphones for my iPod and a ton of chocolate. I got a gift card for Dunkin’ Donuts (yay!). I’d say I did pretty well. I didn’t really get money but considering all of the other great stuff I got, am I really going to complain? Uh…NO!!!!

We had tons of food yesterday. At least 7 different kinds of cookies, two pies, ham, green beans, rolls, scalloped potatoes and my uncle’s homemade marshmallows. That’s right, homemade marshmallows.

The only bad part of yesterday was that around 6pm I had a sudden, severe allergy attack and my left eye got so swollen that I could barely see out of it. Put that on top of eating too much and I was fairly miserable for a few hours. But I’m all better now.

I’m looking forward to this long stretch of not working. No real obligations, nothing to do that I don’t really want to do. Today we’re going to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and I’m sure I’ll be back with a spoiler warning-labelled review of it.

So until then, I hope you all continue to have a wonderful break. Newton and Sophie would say “hi” but they are both passed out right now. They had a big day yesterday also. πŸ™‚

Merry Christmas!

“I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.
Only a hippopotamus will do.
Don’t want a doll, no dinky tinker toy,
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy!”

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope each and every one of you has a wonderful holiday with friends and family. I hope you all get gads of cool presents and eat way too much food (only one more week before we have stop eating everything put in front of us!).

I’d like to take this time to thank all of you regular readers and friends for continuing to come here to Three Months’ Time. You know how I love to give opinions and it is always nice to know that people are actually hearing them. πŸ™‚

So, as they say in Harry Potter, Happy Christmas!

“I can see me now on Christmas morning,
Creeping down the stair.
Oh what joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there!

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do.
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses.
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!”

And no, that was not a misspelling in the last verse. If you know the song, you’ll understand. πŸ™‚
